I believe the risk of reproducing inequalities existing in an in-office world is high also in a remote-based culture.
Unless we start doing some serious positive discrimination, we will have large companies, with a high purchasing power, getting all the best qualified talent around the world. This has repercussions on SMBs, but also on candidates:
- SMBs cannot afford to really look everywhere, they will have to source talent in countries where salaries are lower.
- Candidates who couldn't afford a private Ivy league education, and that have experience working for smaller companies run the risk of being overlooked. The same applies to candidates coming from developing countries.
From the salaries perspective, some people say that they will gradually come to a world-wide balance. From a candidate perspective, again, unless we willingly give the same chances to everyone, it will be difficult to solve.
